I was pleased to attend Independent Dog Face’s documentary and show last night at the Broadway Theatre, and witness a thriving Aboriginal entertainment community here in town.
The evening started with prayers by an Elder, then followed by the drummers. Afterwards there was an Aboriginal Fashion Show, by designer Helen Oro. The fashion show is taking a giant leap forward and moving Aboriginal fashion to the front stage. Following this there was a screening of their first independent film directed by Aaron Peters, called Independent Dog Face: The Movie. Watch a trailer here.
The night ended with a party at Vangelis Tavern, with Independent Dog Face bands playing. More photos and videos coming to their Facebook page. I’m looking forward to this event next year.
